Inside Rebecca Minkoff’s Showroom #RMResort

I love traveling with Rebecca Minkoff. No, I don’t actually hang with the designer (I wish!)  despite how I was misquoted in Racked, but she’s taken us to Mexico this spring and previously to space in the collection prior.

The designer has taken her ever-expanding collection on yet another journey for her resort collection, this time to Ibiza. It’s not exactly the Ibiza you think of when you hear the city name that’s ubiquitous with the party life, but she’s taken it beyond to the local culture with the colors, patterns and textures.

Fans of Minkoff will love how her designs evolved this season. Gone are the signature “Morning After Bags” that put her name on the map. The handbags were quite sophisticated, even taking her popular camera bag and making it more streamlined—though sadly it still doesn’t fit my Canon even with a pancake lens!

Other familiar silhouettes like the backpacks she introduced this past season, were adorned now with tassels and fringes, taking her designs into a more bohemian route than the edgier designs she’s done in the past. Not to fret for those who like a bit of edge, there was still plenty of black, mesh, crackled leather, and even high-top sneakers.

There’s definitely something for everyone’s style as Minkoff’s collections grow, which is why she’s become one of the top brands out there currently.

The Most Underrated Season With Rebecca Minkoff

Pre-fall is the most underrated season of the year. There. I said it.

It’s a lovely taste of things to come and while it’s the underdog of fashion week events, next to pre-spring, it’s one of my favorites to preview in person. Especially when it’s with Rebecca Minkoff. Literally.

Minkoff kindly introduced herself to me as “Rebecca” while she observed everyone marveling over her collection, in a new showroom space, just a block away from her old one, but with far more space and light. Just like her office upgrade, her collection just keeps getting better and better.

The brand has come quite a long way from its signature “Morning After Bag” start, venturing into a full line of accessories, a denim line, and now what may be its strength, a wearable, yet unique, ready-to-wear line.

Inspired by the textile designs of Candace Wheeler, Minkoff took her collection to a more bohemian, eclectic and yet sophisticated place, even developing her own fabric designs for the first time. It was a welcomed departure from the whimsy of her Mexican-inspired spring collection and the darker space-inspired fall collection. Whatever seems to inspire Minkoff each season, the carefree style of her Californian roots always shines through.

Check out some of my favorite picks from the collection including a horse sweater (year of the horse!), the coolest backpack I’ve ever seen, and chic duffels from the men’s line, Ben Minkoff that will make you want to borrow from the boys:

#RMDenim Pants Party

No, I wasn’t back home in Brooklyn with this graffiti; I ventured over to SoHo for Rebecca Minkoff’s denim pop-up shop last night at 96 Greene Street.

RM is known for her stylish bags that are both functional (like her original design, which she dubbed “Morning After Bag.”), but in recent years she’s been branching out to other accessories and ready to wear. Now she’s conquering the world of jeans and in true Minkoff style, she brought along all of her stylish followers, also known as “Minkettes.”

This collection was called “What I like About Blue”—which is why party-goers received a rubber bracelets with the phrase on it—with mostly shades of blue with some summery neutrals mixed in. This is the kind of collection that suits weekenders from downtown to the Hamptons.

While I was coveting the blue and white printed jeans that RM wore herself and that the whole shop felt more downtown than SoHo itself, what I loved most about the new collection was that a donation will be made to the organization “No Kid Hungry,” which will feed up to 20 meals to a child in need with a purchase of the jeans.

On my way out of the event, I noticed “it” model Coco Rocha stopped to take some pictures with the press and upon my snapping this iPhone pic, realized there was the glowing RM looking pretty chic in her new design.

Speaking of chic designs, I scored these kicks at the Helmut Lang sample sale in SoHo in between a fitting, running around SoHo for another job, and this event. While the women were digging through the brand’s signature blazers and leggings, these heels called my name—and for half of the price of the original.
