{New Work Alert} Lands’ End’s Fall Issue of Apostrophe

I recently had the opportunity to style Lands’ End’s quarterly magazine, Apostrophe for their fall issue and as you can tell by the images below, had a lot of fun on this shoot at their headquarters in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. I also had fun sharing my styling tips and fall trend predictions while behind the scenes of the shoot (see video above), including the fall coats every woman needs.

Speaking of needs, I also started to make my fall shopping list from their latest collection. Trust me, it’s really good. The details on the coats made them look way more expensive than they probably are, the leather handbags rival ones that cost more than double, and those jeans! I can’t believe they are finally making jeans that both I and my hubby will want every style of.

Start making your fall shopping list below…

STYLIST TIP (top secret!): They didn’t show it, but they caught me on camera weathering a leather watch and belt with a bit of rubbing alcohol and sand paper—try this at home to make your new leather goods feel perfectly aged!

How To Wear A Summer Dress In The Fall

Dear Andi,

I need an honest stylist’s opinion! I want to wear this floral maxi dress to a wedding next week and I’m not sure if it’s too springy for a casual fall evening wedding!

-Risa of ReallyRisa.com, Philadelphia

Dear Risa,

I’m all about maximizing your wardrobe and making it work for another season, so I say go for it, as long as you accessorize accordingly.

While I do say “yes” to white in the colder months, I would steer clear of it in this case. You will want to make your dress appear to work for the season, so why not mix some darker tones in? If you pair it with a black or navy tuxedo jacket, you’ll not only stay warmer, but you’ll look chic. You can even try adding some pops of metallics in your shoes and handbag to make your floral seem fresh instead of seasonal. How to wear a summer dress in a fall evening

How To Pick The Perfect Fall Handbag

Top Handle Bags For Fall
1. Coach shoulder bag // 2. The Cambridge Satchel Company shoulder bag // 3. MICHAEL Michael Kors monogrammed tote // 4. Loeffler Randall navy blue handbag // 5. Kate Spade tote bag // 6. Madewell orange tote

Dear Andi,

I am on the hunt for a new handbag and was hoping you could recommend a few good places/ designers to look at. I want something that is classic, medium in size that I can use for a while. Crossbody/shoulder is also ideal considering I will be strapping a baby to my chest any day now. JCrew has some nice bags right now, and of course the 3.1 Phillip Lim bag you have is awesome. I’m just curious if you would point me in any other directions?

-Nancy, NYC

Dear Nancy,
I certainly can recommend a few options that are both classic and can work for someone with a new baby that wants something a bit more stylish than the typical diaper bag. The top handle bag with a cross-body strap is not only the ideal silhouette for this fall, but they also are perfect to be hands free when you are also toting a baby!

While I can wax poetically about designer bags that may be what you would normally want and are so tempting like Celine and Saint Laurent, the reality is that with a new baby, those would become pieces solely for display in your closet. Designers like Michael Kors, Coach, and of course J.Crew have reasonable price points that you won’t be afraid to stuff it with baby wipes.

Also, if you’re a fan of my 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli bag but don’t want to break the bank with a new baby coming, check out his new bag collection for Target. For $54.99, you can’t beat this for a baby bag—or feel guilty when there’s spit up on it.
The cross-body strap on all of these bags is also ideal if you plan on going back to work, as you can remove it or tuck it in when you want to look professional or even take your bag into the evening hours.

How To Wear Flats + Tights

DearAndi.com / stylist picks / Ask Andi

@ALabonne on Twitter asked ANDI:
Fashion question! Debating new shoe purchases, so can I pair cobalt suede flats with black tights for the winter?

ANSWER:
Definitely! I love pairing bright colors like cobalt with black for a dramatic pop of color, as well as anything that can be worn from one season to the next. If you can get more for your money on an item in your wardrobe, then it’s more worth investing in.

STYLIST TIP #1: When styling your flats with tights, make sure you style it right. An a-line, above-the-knee skirt or a shift dress would work best. A fuller skirt could make you look younger and cutesy with flats (if you’re a “Gleek” like me, think Rachel Berry).

STYLIST TIP #2: If you’re going to go with a bright color on your feet, keep the rest of your bottom-half monochromatic. Black opaque tights with a dark colored skirt will elongate your legs and make you appear slimmer. Same goes if you wear a bright skirt; then keep your tights and shoes in the same tones.

STYLIST TIP #3: If you do end up wearing suede flats in the winter months, then make sure you protect them! With a weatherproof spray, you can prevent your shoe purchase from getting damaged by the elements.
