Mastering The Messy Tuck

Now that you learned the tricks to the effortless tucked top look, you’re ready to master the art of the messy tuck.

Whether you’re wearing a sweater or an oversized vintage tee, you can style it like you didn’t try (but you did). Even Man Repeller is talking about looking “natural” or effortless lately, so you know that it’s cool to look like you’re not even trying (even though you did).

Trust me, it’s really easy…

STEP 1: Grab the bottom in a small section of your shirt and then tuck in the area you intend to work with, whether it’s the middle, left or right side.

STEP 2: Pull out the area around your tuck.

STEP 3: Fold over and play with the area around the tuck. If the back is way too long like in a old men’s vintage tee, feel free to tie a knot in the back to make it more fitted. Also, you’re welcome to add a belt to this situation. Then enjoy how everyone checks out your effortless style.

How To Tuck A Shirt (And Make It Look Effortlessly Good)

There’s something that can look so chic about a casually tucked in shirt. You’ve seen it on those ladies that have that certain je ne sais quoi about them, but every time you try it, you look like you’re uncomfortable, too polished, or even worse, like you did in middle school.

Tucking can also be extremely flattering, creating a waist and ultimately making you look slimmer.

STYLIST TIP: I use a chopstick when I’m on set on photoshoots to get a neat tuck without sticking my hands down someone’s pants.  Here’s how’s you can achieve both a neat and messy tuck. Chopstick optional.

STEP 1: Give yourself a good tuck. Don’t be afraid to stick your shirt in your underwear for extra hold and smoothness. Leave the back out if you want to go for a less polished look.

Step 2: Raise your arms up in the air. Wave them like you just don’t care (sorry, couldn’t resist).

When you put your arms down, it may look like this.

Step 3: Grab the bottom of your shirt and smooth it out by creating a “shelf” without pulling more of it out of your tuck.

Lastly, revel in your tucking skills. Stay tuned for more stylist tips and how to’s.

How To Choose The Perfect Winter Coat

Winter Coat Picks

1. NAU red hooded coat // 2. ESPRIT navy coat // 3.  J.Crew army coat // 4. Anne Klein hooded coat // 5. Scotch & Soda army coat

I am in the market for a new winter coat—not puffy (my current one makes me feel like a marshmallow) and preferably with a hood and zipper. Any thoughts on where to look?

-Stacey, New York

Dear Stacey,

I feel your pain. Living in New York in the winter, it’s always a challenge to look both flattering and fashionable when you just want to bundle up and feel warm!

In the past, I’ve sacrificed warmth for fashion, but now that I find myself running around the city more, I make sure to be sensible with a down-filled jacket.

The trick to not feeling like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is to make sure your waist is nipped in or belted—then you won’t feel bad about your puffy shell.

I splurged on my last winter coat and bought a Nau jacket like this one, which is remarkably thin, but packed densely with down, so it doesn’t look like a big puffer coat but it definitely keeps you warm like one. Not to mention, it’s waterproof, so you don’t get that nasty wet feather smell and you stay perfectly dry.

I’m all about the bargains, but I really feel that if you live in a climate like ours, you should invest in a good quality winter coat. People don’t think twice about spending $300 on a dress you wear a couple of times to a wedding, but when it comes to something you wear for nearly half of the year, it’s worth the cost.

That being said, you can certainly look for deals on coats at places like T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, as well as sales like this coat that has a major markdown.

Stay warm and stylish!

You’re Going To DIE Over This Jewelry GIVEAWAY!

Just because Halloween is over, doesn’t mean zombies are going anywhere for the year. Unless you’ve been living under a rock or boycotting Time Warner Cable, you probably are aware that the number one horror TV show in the country at the moment is the zombie-filled AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Who What Wear recently declared that the mismatched or one earring look is not dead (sorry, I couldn’t resist the pun), so why not try this trend for yourself with a cheeky stud like this mixed with one of your more feminine or dangling earrings?

Now you can be the lucky owner of this zombie head earring made from sterling sliver with black rhodium (a derivative of platinum) plating, retailing at $140, just by entering below.
