New Work: Lazy Morning At The Milliner

I’ve been meaning to check out the new inn in beautiful Hudson, NY called The Milliner, which the most impressive couple I know, Shannon Greer and Charlotta Janssen recently rennovated from an old milliner factory to a place that I didn’t want to leave. I almost didn’t when Shannon recently asked me to style a shoot up there and I got to trade the city life for the country life for a couple of days with a fun crew. Check out the “Lazy Morning” we shot on a gorgeous day upstate.

All In The Jeans + Calling All Brooklyn Artists!

C & C California top // Mavi jeans c/o // hat found at Brimfield Antique Fair // Sam Edelman shoes // J.Crew belt // Nashelle disc necklace c/o // Stella & Dot spike bracelet // Gorjana rings // Topshop bag

What brand of jeans you were wearing used to be the status of how cool you were when I was a kid. I recall girls having a whole wardrobe of Mavi jeans and being quite envious.

I wore the one pair I could afford for years and then finally retired them in college when they began to rip (oh the regrets now!).

Fast forward to adult Liz: a Mavi jeans store opened in my Brooklyn ‘hood and I just had to try out the leading denim brand in the country’s new styles. Just like the jeans I wore for years, this particular pair is exactly the worn in denim that I’ve been searching for. It’s perfect for the weekends and even my active days on set working as a stylist.

Speaking of my Brooklyn, Mavi is hosting an art competition for local artists that you can enter starting today. The brand asks “WHAT’S YOUR BROOKLYN” and your creative entry could be turned into a mural on the US flagship store in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Submit your designs to  and click here for the official rules. Good luck and I can’t wait to see the winner’s design unveiled in the iconic neighborhood on June 21st!

The Oscars of Fashion: Met Gala Best Dressed

Arizona Muse in Zac Posen

This year’s Met Gala may have had a stricter dress code thanks to Anna Wintour cracking down after last year’s more revealing appearances. This year’s red carpet for the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute proved to be a bit more demure in taste—though some more daring than others—keeping in mind the theme of this year’s exhibition that exemplifies 50′s glamour: “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.”

Here are some of the best dressed attendees:

Chanel Iman in Topshop

Blake Lively in Gucci

Cara Delevigne in Stella McCartney

Amber Heard in Giambattista Valli

Charlize Theron in Dior

Emma Stone in Thakoon

Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera

Hailey Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung

Janelle Monae in Tadashi Shoji

Beyonce in Givenchy

Kate Bosworth (and Rihanna’s back) both in Stella McCartney

Kristen Stewart in Chanel

Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors

Selena Gomez and Jessica Alba both in Diane Von Furstenburg

Taylor Swift in Oscar De La Renta

The 7 Step Formula For A Go-To Outfit

Elizabeth & James blazer // Current Elliott jeans // Free People top // Joie clutch // Ray-Ban sunglasses // Sam Edelman shoes (scored at TJMaxx!)  // etc… bracelets // Gorjana rings and necklace

This Elizabeth & James blazer has been in my closet longer than I’ve hung onto most pairs of jeans. It wasn’t cheap (and of course, I purchased it at less than retail at a discount store), but it was one of those well tailored, classic pieces that I knew would have longevity in my wardrobe.

A good blazer is something that’s worth the splurge on. It’s like your winter coat—you can end up wearing it every day and even as a jacket on transitional days like this weird is it spring yet weather we’ve been having here in NYC.

That’s what got me thinking, you can’t go wrong when you wear this simple formula for a classic go-to outfit:

1. Start with a good pair of jeans. Boyfriend style makes it look effortlessly cool, but well-fitting skinnies are always good, and flared/wide legged are also acceptable for the daring fashionista.

2. Then top it off with a silky or chiffon blouse. This is what’s going to dress up the outfit, especially if your jeans are a bit worn in. Sleeveless works just as well as long sleeve. Give the top a little tuck in the middle and let the sides hang out for a casual look, otherwise tucked and belted for a more polished look.

3. Throw on a blazer. My favorite step. Black, navy, white are classic, but you can have fun with this too. If you want to get super-fashiony, through it over your shoulders instead of actually putting it on and you may have street-style photographers chasing you!

4. Add some great show-stopping flats like oxfords. The more simple the outfit, the more fun your shoe should be. Don’t be afraid of metallics, which can actually act as a neutral for your outfit. Cuff or crop those jeans and show off your ankles, sans socks!

5. Carry a clutch. This will have you ready to go from running errands to grabbing drinks with friends. A clutch always looks more polished than a giant bag. You can even keep a pouch like this one in your purse and pull it out when you’re ready to go out.

6. Pile on simple jewelry. The more clean and simple, the more you can layer up. This will complete your outfit.

7. Finish off with a classic pair of sunglasses. Like a cherry on a sundae, sunglasses can actually give that final touch to your outfit. Don’t be afraid to change your sunglasses based on what you’re wearing and classic shapes like aviators and wayfarers go with just about any look.
