A stark, white background and a quiet audience set the tone for the Katya Leonovich SS15 runway show. One by one, models paraded down the runway with a slow strut and an audacious temperament.

It was a unique show, with a beautiful use of the new 3D printing technology that created the garments and a fusion of iridescent, white, blue and purple hues.

Highlights from the show include the blue tech-mesh dress and the purple laser cut dress, both showing the capability of the 3D printing. Common tones among the collection included grey, gunmetal metallic, white, purple, blue, lilac and cream. Standout accessories include bright and colorful sunglasses and statement necklaces.

Leonovich’s 3D printed collection serves as an example of how garments may be manipulated by these new tools and possibly the future of the fashion industry.

Trina Turk’s SS15 presentation was a fun and vibrant event at Lincoln Center with show-goers, interactive models and of course, the designer herself, Trina, all excited and less serious than the typical NYFW experience. Selfies were even encouraged (yes even with the models!). The collection also featured looks from her husband’s menswear line, Mr.Turk.

Inspired by the LA’s downtown flower mart, the focus of the collection’s Pop Art Flower Mart theme was the combination of tropical, graphic and garden prints, as well as an array of colors, geometric shapes and stripes.

Highlights from the presentation included the Trellis Scarf print silk crepe de chine caftan and Indigo Pop tweed fringe jacket, Bora Bora stripe print bandeau and the Pinpoint petal jacquard short, giving an abundance of tropical and geometric prints.

Mod Banana, Aqua, Indigo, and Red Hot were common tones among the collection. Standout accessories include, straw hats and totes, geometric headbands and beach towels, colorful iPhone cases and bangles. As always, the Turks make us look forward to the lighthearted warmer months of fashion.

As a precursor to New York Fashion Week’s women’s ready-to-wear collections, the men’s presentations featuring designers such as David Hart, Lucio Castro, Gents, Stephen F., Original Penguin, Bespoken, Carlos Campos, Antonio Azzuolo, J. Lindberg, and W.R.K. were filled with a plethora of beach-y nods to retro eras and effortless street style ensembles. Think Palm Springs and Miami—possibly foreshadowing what’s to come this week for the women’s collections.

The set up for each presentation was simple with the bright colored clothing pop against the backgrounds. Tones such as sea foam, baby blue, dusty pink, navy, and army green, as well as classic geometric prints like argyle and gingham were a common theme of the collections.

The highlights included David Hart’s all-over atomic suit with shorts—the ultimate 1970s vibe. Standout accessories featured weekender bags, backpacks, low-top sneakers, pocket squares, loafers, fedoras and Teva sandals (yes, first the Birkenstock, now the Teva is back!). MOSCOT also created an exclusive line of sunglasses with a retro vibe for the show.

What can we expect for menswear trends this season? We can anticipate homage to the 1950s and 1970s, with a modern urban feel.

DEAR ANDI,

Got any tips for men’s / andro styles this fall season? Help!

-@soleinyourshoes

Dear @soleinyourshoes,

I love this question because you can update any menswear-style pieces you may already have like a tailored pant, a blazer, a boyfriend jean, a basic v-neck tee, etc. with just a little update with one (or all if you’d like) of these little accessories additions this season.

MEN’S / MEN’S MILITARY INSPIRED WATCHES

This season, trade your metal watch band for a classic leather or rugged rubber. The men’s watch is a bit more classic this season so it’s okay to borrow from the boys. It also looks great when layered with any bracelets you may have.

LOAFERS

Whether classic black or an updated twist, these look great when you wear a cropped pant and show off a little ankle (no socks please!).

SLIP-ON SNEAKERS

This comfortable trend from this past season is easing into fall with more options and updates to the classic.

CHELSEA BOOTS

These boots are making a strong comeback this season, as women are trading in the stiletto for a flat more often lately.

Also make note of these “trends” because they’re all fairly classic and are good investments that you may end up wearing into the next season as well. Happy fall shopping!
