The Perfect Summer Outfit

I’ve been looking for versatile pieces this season to wear for my summer trips, whether abroad, or at a country summer house with friends. I also need ones that can double duty from running around the city prepping for styling gigs or running around on shoots and then catching up with friends over dinner afterward.

After some searching, I think I finally found this summer’s essentials that make the perfect summer outfit that will do for all of that.

Here’s my formula:

→The lightweight cotton top is a staple that every woman should own in their wardrobe. It’s great for avoiding sunburns, you can throw it over your swimsuit, or pair it with a pair of summery bottoms for an effortlessly cool and casual look.

→Tailored shorts are a great way to look polished and stay cool. These are extremely versatile because they are appropriate for work and weekends and can be dressed up or down.

→A comfy sandal is a must-have this summer. If fashionistas are shelling out $500 for these Isabel Marant sandals, you can rock a pair of comfy ones that still look cute. Yes, Birks are back and you can do it.

Good to go!

What are your essentials for this summer?

A Summer Getaway in Wisconsin

Are you ready for summer? I know I am. I’ve been waiting for the summer issue of Lands’ End’s quarterly magazine that I worked on, Apostrophe, to come out and it’s finally here. Check out the current issue online with images I styled in this story, as well as the “Surf’s Up” and “Five For Five” stories, all shot by Daymion Mardel.

Working on this shoot made me ready to layer up my summery pieces over my swimwear, but sadly I will have to settle for wearing a classic stripe, as seen here, which is probably more work-appropriate.

I’ll be set styling the next issue of Apostrophe this week in Wisconsin, so check both @landsend and @dearandi on Instagram for behind-the-scenes on the shoot and possibly my cameo when the issue comes out for fall. Stay tuned!

5 Closet Hacks To Make Your Life Easier

Living in NYC, I’ve come to realize that a closet is valuable space. No matter where you live, you have to utilize the space as best as you can. With these life hacks for your closet, you can have an excuse to fill it with more shoes or handbags or fill-in-the-blank.

1. Use vintage suitcases and trunks to hold hosiery, scarves, and clothing you want to store from the previous season. You’ll not only save room in your closet, but you’ll have functional decor.

2. Use picture frame wire to display sunglasses in your closet.

Screw in eye hooks like you would on the back of a picture frame and secure the wire.

You can also hang necklaces and create rows of these on the wall or door of your closet.

3. Use vintage or decorative hooks to hang the items you use the most often like your purse, necklaces, robes, etc. They don’t have to match and can look great when you have more variety. You can find great ones from Anthropologie (see below).

4. Use removable shelves (these are from the Container Store) to create tiers in your closet shelves. This helps keep you organized and create more space, like here where the shelf separates purses from clutches.

5. Use decorate bowls and dishes from your kitchen to hold the jewelry you wear daily. This will make your mornings and evenings much easier and prettier.

Fashionable Sneakers To Covet

I went to support my good friend Emily run the Brooklyn half marathon early in the morning last Sunday. Rolling out of bed at 6am on a Sunday calls for throwing on a hat to cover my bed head, pants that feel like pajamas, layers to peel off when the sun hits and the temperature goes up 20 degrees, and of course, comfy sneakers.

These hybrid brogue sneakers were one of the last pairs I scored at the flagship Adidas store in SoHo a while back (sorry guys!) and Emily re-pinned them on Pinterest and said she got maybe 500 re-pins immediately after that. Since then, I’ve received multiple queries about where to get some cool kicks including the DEAR ANDI question and fashion advice below.

3.1 Phillip Lim jacket // Isabel Marant x H&M tee // Zara scarf and hat // Vince Camuto pants (at TJMaxx, similar online) // Rebecca Minkoff bag (similar online) // Adidas sneakers // Gorjana ring // E.Kammeyer and Stella & Dot bracelets

I’ve been looking for some fashionable sneakers that I can wear with a cute pair of pants. Any suggestions??

-Jennifer, Florida

Dear Jennifer,

As you can see, I’m all about the comfy BUT cute sneakers this season. My sister, who’s also a stylist, and I are constantly on the hunt for the perfect fashionable sneaker and this season it seems to be everywhere—lucky for us. Sneakers are the new heels and my feet are thanking me after years of destroying them with heels. Check out some of my picks below and continue shopping in my stylist picks above. They’ll be great with pants, but also don’t be afraid to rock them with a casual dress this season too!
