Friday Favorites

I received these Fibi & Clo jeweled sandals back in February and I couldn’t even think about baring my toes in that cold never ending winter we had. They sat in my closet for months and stored nice and flat (perfect for travel!) that I totally forgot about them until I did my bi-annual changing over of seasons in my wardrobe.

I’ve been traveling for photoshoots (hence, please excuse the not perfect photo quality in this post), so with the impending wacky weather, it was perfect to slip into my suitcase as a dressier alternative to my flip-flops.

Bonus: the jeweled detail is so eye-catching that it distracted from my desperate need of a pedicure.

I was pulling some jewelry for a shoot from one of my favorite showrooms and had a bit too much fun with all of the gorgeous Sisco Berluti stacks of beaded bracelets.

I’ve used them on shoots before but the colors and variety almost overwhelmed me this time. Then the PR ladies told me to go crazy and dig through to get the ones I wanted. Sounds easier than it looks—not only because you have to get to the bottom, but there’s too many good ones to choose from.

Jessica Alba, Selena Gomez and Halle Berry are seen with their own stacks all of the time, but it’s great that you can make it your own.

A very thoughtful and talented friend of mine, Kate, decided to make me this food journal after I told her about a recent stomach bug I had but couldn’t find the source of. She hand bound the book and designed it so I can keep track of my meals and how I feel. It’s been fun to see what I end up eating when I’m working versus during the weekend and especially how these foods effect me. Check out some of her other DIY projects on her great blog.

This past week was a busy one! Here’s what I’ve been up to:

1 – The whole crew had fun with this prop from my shoot for a popular car company last week, which we shot on the beach in Long Island.

2 – These were the props for the shoot of a famous basketball coach that I styled for his book cover last week.

3 – I found this tee in Bloomingdales while prepping for a shoot this past week. Touché.

4 – I tried quail eggs for possibly the first time on my birthday at one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn, La Vara. I guess you’re never too old to try something new.

Bright Shiny (Birth)Day

Hope you had a beautiful Memorial Day weekend. It’s always one of my favorite times of year not only because it’s when we finally get to break out the summer gear hiding in our closets, well, because it’s my birthday.

I got lucky this year because it actually landed on the holiday and it was the first warm day we’ve had in NYC in a long time. It was great to finally let my toes feel the air and wear some lighter colors than my usual cold weather uniform of black.

STYLIST TIP: Just because your mother or grandmother told you the old fashion rules like “don’t wear white after Labor Day and before Memorial Day” doesn’t mean you have to listen to them anymore. Sure, dress for the season—don’t wear heavy fabrics like velvet, tweed, or wool during the warmer months—but rules in fashion can be broken nowadays.

Friday Favorites / Getting Summer-Ready

I’ve been searching for the perfect aviator sunglasses for years now, but with my oval shaped face, they all seemed somewhat silly on me, exaggerating how long it is. I tried these Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses on recently and fell in love. The blue tint makes me feel like I’m not hiding my baby blues and with the mirrored lens, it’s a bit more fun than just the basic aviator that everyone has. There’s even a red tinted version, which would look amazing on a brunette. Luckily I have a birthday coming up this weekend, so the hubby took note and got them for me.

I’ve been having a ton of skin issues lately thanks to a stomach bug and a product that wasn’t good for my type of skin, so I just visited my skin savior, my facialist, Sage, at Juva Skin & Laser Center’s Medispa and she’s whipping it back to shape. She told me to stop using those products that weren’t great for my skin and go back to what was working. What was working was anything by Jane Iredale, a celebrity makeup artist with a gentle line of makeup. I love everything she makes, but right now the Jane Iredale Dream Tint tinted moisturizer and “Quad” bronzer are my perfect summer makeup duo.

Sure getting to style celebs, musicians and models can be fun, but there’s nothing like styling a regular person that you can make feel great with just an outfit.

T.J.Maxx and Marshalls asked me to dress a group of 10 participants that work for the city of Atlanta for Katie Couric’s daytime show, “Katie,” that were challenged to lose weight together on a 6-week program. Some of these people didn’t even own clothing to their current size just yet and they hadn’t seen what they could actually look like when dressed in their current size!

It was so touching to be thanked by them and be told they haven’t ever worn something that made them feel this good. My favorite part of the job was how they all cheered for each other telling one another how good they now looked in their new looks—and now they all only want to shop at T.J.Maxx and Marshalls!

Check out the segment here, along with the participants in the audience.

A special thanks to Robbin Ciccio and Erin Gray for their work on this!
