Apertivos with Fiorentini + Baker

Fiorentini + Baker boots have been spotted on celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Alba, the list goes on… so I’m not the only one that’s in love with this cult favorite brand. You may remember my pair from this post when I explained how to preserve your boots. Well, they’ve stood the test of time (and my styling tips) and I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth.

You may think it’s crazy to spend $400-700 on a pair of boots, but if you think about how many times you wear them, it totally makes sense. My favorite boots have lasted me 3 years so far, so say I spend $150 on a pair each year, it pretty much evens out. With good care, these could last a lifetime.

Now my only problem is deciding which pair to invest in next—I want them all!

Check out the SHOP THIS POST below to see which F+B boots I’m obsessing over. Which ones are you?

Fiorentini + Baker event

1 – These metallic oxfords for spring have my name all over them. Is it possible to have to many?

2 – I love the retro look of these sandals and a little bonus: they’re right on trend and will be comfy with that stacked heel!

3 – These ankle booties are perfect for spring to ease into the warmer months with everything from jeans to toughen up a little sundress.

4 – I was invited to have apertivos at the Fiorentini + Baker store in SoHo while chatting with the designer, Deborah Baker (yes, the Baker in Fiorentini + Baker) and preview the spring collection the other night. I say the term “spring” loosely, as their classic edgy boots with gorgeous Italian leather can be worn all year round and even the sandals can be worn well into fall with tights/socks.

Be A Model

Whether you’re traveling, heading to an upcoming music festival, or are just a girl on the go, you’re going to want to know about this.

I received these lip glosses from Model Co Cosmetics while at the IFB Conference back in February and thought nothing of it than, just another lip gloss.

Then one found its way into my bag and I’ve been obsessed since. It’s clever package design has a mirror right on it so you can see what you’re doing and might I add, discretely. I love (and actually need) to wear lip color, but I always forget to go somewhere to reapply and I feel like whipping out a compact in public can be rude.

Now people ask to borrow my lip gloss for its mirror. The bonus is that the lip color is subtle and doesn’t feel fake or sticky like other glosses do. I’m partial to the color “Showgirl Red,” which gives me a nice subtle rosy color and it looks great over some of my more matte and bolder lip stains.

Get your own here from the cult Australian beauty brand, which was founded by a modeling agent, and stop borrowing my mirror!

Black & White & Pastel Done Right

DSC_0159

I still can’t stop thinking about my recent trip to NOLA and all of the beautiful colors, architecture and details that are inspiring me in both my wardrobe and in my home.

The people of the Big Easy made working with pastels look, well, easy. They even got it right with otherwise sweet colors mixed with some black trim and accents, which made it look a bit more polished. Take note in your own looks.

Hologram accessories like this one from E.Kammeyer are huge right now, and can make any look seem fresh by adding one of them.

I even want to paint a scene from the city, like this beautiful home in the Garden District on the wall of my new backyard. Can you tell that I want to take everything about New Orleans and bring it home with me? Well, almost everything—my shellfish allergy there didn’t go over so well…

STYLIST TIP: Not into this season’s pastel trend? Try it with baby steps by mixing some of neutral pieces like denim and chambray, along with an edgier accent with black in it. Promise you’ll feel less like a ballerina and more like you’re right on trend!

Harlem Shaken

DSC_0302

I traveled from Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon all the way up to Harlem to go to a quite colorful art show of the artist Bariq Cobbs at the Bibi Salon. For those of you that don’t live in NYC, it’s like traveling to another state border when you travel that far in the city—though this was definitely worth the trip.

Bariq’s influence of his hometown of Philly mixed with fashion was evident in his art. His styles ranged from what I like to call “80′s fashion plate” (which were my favorites, as seen above), to graffiti styles that reminded me of an ode to the 90′s hip-hop scene and even Surrealism.

I remarked to him that one of his paintings resembled the surrealist artist Magrite because of his painting with a man in a hat. He replied that he’s been influenced by Dalî lately.

Bariq’s art was so colorful and vibrant that it made me feel so ready for some warmer April weather. Well, except for the humidity, which caused my hair to frizz that day.

Celebrity makeup artist, Maria Scali (above left) introduced me to the owner of the salon, who is also a celebrity hair stylist, Maisha Stephens (above middle). How fabulous are they?
