Complimentary Colors

JSDNYC top / ASOS pants and envelope clutch / Free People sunnies / H&M bangle / etc… braided cuff / earrings c/o Beth Lauren Jewelry

Once you get over the fear of color in your wardrobe, you’re ready for the next steps: playing with color.

STYLIST TIP: In case you missed art 101, shades of complimentary colors always are vibrant when they’re put together:

blue + orange

red + green

purple + yellow

They look especially good when they’re in the same family of shades like these colors (ie., pink + lime). The yellow in these sunglasses are in the same color family as the aqua and peach colors in the outfit, so it works nicely with the others. Any primary shades or neon colors added to the mix would probably look out of place.

Next time you’re stumped on your colorblocking skills, try this at home.

50 Shades of Pink

Rugby Ralph Lauren top (similar online) / French Connection skirt (Loehmann’s) / custom Nona E. Rose belt / DV Dolce Vita shoes / hat from Brimfield Antique Fair, made in Ecuador (similar online) / vintage Dooney & Burke bag / Nixon watch / bangles from Vietnam (similar online) / etc… watchband bracelets

I’m not usually one for pink, as I feel like I look like Barbie when I wear it, but I’ve been finding myself using as it as an accent color in my wardrobe a lot lately. Whether it’s from my iphone case, to my neon bracelet, to my top like this one, it can add a playful pop to an otherwise dull outfit.

It happened to be a nice addition to this military skirt, which has been a perennial favorite in my wardrobe. The military trend is coming back this fall, but why not bring it back now by mixing it with some brights to keep it fresh and summery.

Leave the darker shades for after Labor Day.

#HamptonsProblems

Equipment top (similar) / BDG shorts / Nona E. Rose belt / Bass shoes / vintage bag / House of Harlow 1960 sunnies (similar) / Nixon watch / etc… bracelets

If you couldn’t already tell, I spent last week in the Hamptons with some friends and had my first real getaway vacay in about a year, which was a nice treat.

As per usual, I ended up overpacking and with a lot of red, white, and blue in my suitcase because I felt it was necessary to be patriotically prepared for any occasion during the 4th of July holiday.

This easy breezy top and comfy, yet cute cork heeled shoes were perfect pieces for vacations like this where you need to go from casual-hanging-by-the-pool looks during the day to the Heidi-Klum-just-stole-my-table looks in the evening. #HamptonsProblems
